Of course 'net access became unavailable the day after I posted the previous nonsense.
Branson is expensive. It appears that the town of ~5,000 permanent residents successfully entertains and fleeces 10-11,000,000 visitors a year. I believe that one of the biggest money-makers has to be selling timeshares. To tourists. In order to get the discount on the BM/PRATR tickets, the L&T and I had to sit through a 2 hour sales pitch. We also had to show a photo ID and a "major credit card". So I showed them my driver's license and Sears card.
"Oh, no, sir, we need a major credit card!" So I used my Visa. Oll ist korrect.
The next day we did another one of these so my sister could get points for bringing "prospects" to the sales pitch.
"Sir, we need two forms of identification, please."
Okey-dokey. So I get out the driver's license and a picture ID from work.
"oh no, sir, one of the IDs must be financial in nature."*
So I pick up the work ID and whip out my Sears card.
"Sir, we need a major credit card."
So I pull out the Visa again. But I wonder if Sears knows they aren't a major credit card. Probably have more paper on the street than AmEx....

Sears issued a new 2Lt a credit card back in 1967, and at the time I sure considered it a "major" card.
I think the fact that I had a track record with the Sears card greased the skids to getting a "BankAmericard" shortly thereafter.
I'm sorry to see Sears decline, and hope they bounce back. The company insures their activated Reservist/Guardsman don't take a pay cut when they go on active duty, and we should reward that!
First one the L&T and I ever got. Still had the 1 1/4 X 4 inch (or so) sized card until about 3 years ago, when I used it. After we married, it was known as a "gateway card", opening the path to true debt....
