As my sister reminded me, we've had some serious chow while we've been here in Santa Fe. The green chile cheeseburger from Bert's Burger Bowl proves that great food can be delivered from a dumpy-looking place. (The french fries had to reach up to be 'meh'.) But the cheeseburger was damn good.
Now for this morning's breakfast. The L&T likes her some pancakes and I was given to understand that the Tecolote Cafe had some good ones. "Great breakfast -No toast" is their motto and the only toast I saw there was french. The L&T ordered melba pancakes and seemed very satisfied with her meal. The pancakes were the size of a dinner plate and about 3/8-1/2" thick. I, on the other hand, ordered carne y huevos and was absolutely blown away. The carne asada was the best I'd ever had, bar none. I was probably the happiest tourist in Santa Fe when we left the place. If you are near Santa Fe, and like mexican-style food, you owe it to yourself to try breakfast here.
Sidebar from yesterday. While pack-muling for the L&T at Old Town yesterday, I found a jar of habanero hot fudge sauce and promptly purchased it. Can't wait to get home and try it on some Pierre's vanilla ice cream. If you have the misfortune to have never tried a good mole poblano sauce, it will be a revelation to your taste buds. There is a reason the Aztecs used a blend of chocolate and chili peppers in their religious ceremonies.
Maybe Bobcat Bite this weekend...
