Today Annie Has Crossed the Rainbow Bridge

Today about 1600 the Bosslady and I rendered the last service to our beloved 14 year old dachshund Annie. She'd reached the point of falling over and was not reacting as she did when she was feeling better. After much discussion and weeping. we gave her the final mercy and held her as her gallant little soul ascended to wait with Stewie and Scarlet. Fare well, young warrior, until we meet again.

So sorry for your loss. Losing a dog is losing a dear friend.

We adopt geriatric rescues and abandoned dogs. A lot of people throw their old dogs away when they get old and medically expensive but we’re stupid enough to adopt them. It’s very rewarding but there’s a lot of heartache since, at ten or twelve years-old they don’t last too long. We’ve had to put down 8 or 9 in the last ten years so I know what you’re feeling. Hang in, it gets better.

They pack so much love into too few years. Bless you for being Annie's guardian in this tough world.

Dogs print on our souls. You will see her and all the others again. I have 20 rescues waiting for me. Collies and Borzois. What a day of days that will be!!!

I don't know what's worse, watching them become so feeble they can't get up, or mercifully moving them on. Regardless, the memories of when they were full of life never fade.

Buried my old coon girl Daisy this week. Thankfully her last day I fried her a nice cube steak and hand fed her since she went blind the previous night . She walked to the bottom of the hill , stretched out and died . Daisy girl was a guard dog extraordinaire . She could smell or hear a trespasser a mile away.

Sorry to hear this..it is always tough to lose a beloved friend.

I'm a German Shepherd guy, but when it was time for our daughter's English Springer, we were both there in tears as the vet gave her the injection. That dog would have taken a bullet for any member of our family.

All 3 of our adult kids have dogs, and our youngest has a Dachshund, who is suffering with a very bad skin condition. He is (I think) about 12 years old and he really is miserable, but they can't bring themselves to let him go in peace.

Losing a bestest friend is never easy.
Remember the good times.
Remember the love given, in both directions.
