I can remember spending 30 minutes sitting in a parking lot trying to figure out how to turn the headlights off in a 1980 Mercury Zephyr...turns out the letters-worn-off turn signal knob's push action was the high beams on/off and pull action was headlighs on/off.. a knob on the dash for the headlights and pushbutton on the floor for high beams was so much easier to use.
